Africa's greenest hotel adds Fair Trade stamp to its green hub

Cape Town - Cape Town's Hotel Verde has been certified by Fair Trade Tourism (FTT) for its green standards at the annual World Travel Market Africa on  Wednesday, 19 April.

"Africa's greenest hotel", earned its spot as one of the most sustainable hotels in the world, after becoming the first hotel world-wide to receive a double-platinum green building certification from the United States Green Building Council in 2015.

Added to this, it also joins a list of FTT approved operators such as Tourvest Destination Management, Jenman Safaris,  Baz Bus as well as terra-nova.co.za - click here to see the full list

According to FTT, the certification will bring new weight to Hotel Verde’s commitment to responsible tourism principles, verifying the sustainable practices of more than just the hotel’s design and building operations.

"‘We are delighted to have Africa’s Greenest hotel, Hotel Verde on-board with Fair Trade Tourism as they are leaders in demonstrating that going green is not only responsible but also financially viable, whilst enhancing the client’s experience, at the same time," says Fair Trade Tourism Managing Director, Jane Edge.

General Manager of Hotel Verde, Lindy Meiring, says the FTT certification is an extremely proud alliance for the hotel team.
