This year, Easter weekend is from 14 to 17 April, and it's bound to be wonderful time as families are already making plans to get together in SA. And, if you've been smart in taking your leave, you could be one of the lucky people to now have most of the first school holidays off, between 31 March to 17 April.

To save you some planning during this time, we've lined up the best events, gigs and things to do in and around Cape Town for the Easter school holiday, so you have more time on your hands to spend with family and friends at these lovely spots.
School starts again on Tuesday, 18 April, so be sure to cram in as much of these epic summer events before the slide to winter starts.

31 March to 9 April
SEE: Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat - a family musical - is on show at the Theatre on The Bay until 8 April. Alternatively, check out Raw Silk, a dance-drama that explores the dark underworld of South African street children growing up in a harsh neighbourhood. It's on at the Baxter Theatre Centre until 1 April.
DO: Do what everyone in Cape Town does at least one Sunday of summer - enjoy a Summer Sunset Concert at Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. Young alternative bands, Shortstraw and Al Bairre will be performing on 2 April. You can also hop on a Steam Train on 9 April and travel in a wooden vintage coach dating from 1922 to visit one of the oldest wine farms in SA - Spier.
TASTE: Bored of making that roast and doing those dishes? Go to Boschendal's Sunday Music Picnics with Manouche on 2 April and order an indulging picnic basket beforehand.
EXPLORE: The Cape Town International Jazz Festival will be rocking Cape Town at the CTICC on 31 March and April Fool's Day. It's world-class, so make sure you're there. For something more outdoorsy, join the Top of the Hill Fun Walk through the oldest existing Pinotage block in the world on DeWaal Wine Estate in Stellenbosch on 8 April.
10 April to 16 April
SEE: It's the last chance you have to see this solo exhibition by Matthew Brittan It’s not all that meets the i and Sublime - a group exhibition in the Moór Gallery Franschhoek. The exhibition ends on 15 April 2017.
DO: Go watch Breakfast at Tiffany's at the V&A Waterfront as part of the Galileo Open Air Cinema experience. Take a picnic basket and blanket, or order them when you book your ticket.
TASTE: Head to the Bay Harbour Market in Hout Bay on Friday, Saturday or Sunday for a scrumptious brunch or live music (on Fridays) right by the working harbour.
EXPLORE: Looking for laughs? Improv Mondays - The Long Shots Improvised Comedy Troupe is up again at Obviouzly Armchair in Obs.
FRIDAY, 14 April
SEE: The new event, GRID Cape Town Biennial, reflects on the globalization of contemporary image culture and the importance of visual aspect in society. It takes place from 15 April 2017 to 25 June 2017 at the Castle of Good Hope in Cape Town centre.
DO: The Two Oceans Marathon - also known as the most beautiful marathon the world - takes place over Eastern Weekend. Runners can take part in the 56km ultra marathon, the popular 21km half marathon and the 5km or 2.5km fun runs. Be advised, there will be road closures.
TASTE: Spier will be hosting a Good Friday dinner at their Eight restaurant, prepared with fresh, home-grown, seasonal ingredients sourced from our farm and nearby, trusted suppliers. R400 per person will get you in.
EXPLORE: Get your blood pumping at Rush Claremont's glow-in-the-dark indoor trampoline park at Stadium on Main.
SATURDAY, 15 April
SEE: The romantic classic Love Actually will be screening at Vergenoegd Wine Estate in Stellenbosch as part of the Galileo Open Air Cinema experience's Select Saturdays programme.
DO: The Om Revolution Outdoor Yoga experience is designed to be suitable for beginners and advanced yogis alike. The Saturday morning session takes place in the Company’s Garden at 09:00.
TASTE: Make an outing of brunch or lunch and drive out to Hermanuspietersfontein in the Hemel-En-Aarde Village near Hermanus for their weekly Food & Wine Market from 10:00 to 14:00.
EXPLORE: If you have time on your hands, take the road less travelled on a two-day adventure to the Klein Karoo with the Forgotten Route Train Tour to Matjiesfontein.
SUNDAY, 16 April
SEE: Based on the Oscar-winning hit movie, Priscilla Queen of the Desert is the uplifting story of three drag artists who board a battered old bus named Priscilla, searching for love and friendship. See it at Artscape Theatre Centre.
DO: Head out to see the family-friendly The NeverEnding Story at Kelvin Grove as part of the Galileo Open Air Cinema experience.
TASTE: Tuck into meat roasted on the spit, accompanied by fresh, seasonal farm-to-table sides at Spier's Easter Sunday spit braai.
EXPLORE: Ripley’s Believe It or Not will be showcasing all the weirdest things you never knew existed until 30 April at the V&A Waterfront. Take the kids for a last hoorah before school starts again.
