Cabo San Lucas (Cape Saint Luke or simply Cabo) is one of Mexico’s top five tourist destinations, located at the tip of the Baja California Peninsula.

Mexico is one of the most visited countries in the world, and tops the bucket lists of many seasoned travellers, and for good reason. It is a traveller’s paradise with rich history, delicious delicacies and spectacular landscapes in abundance. Cabo is no exception, a destination famous for its beautiful beaches, water activities, marine life, and seafood! Live clams, anyone?

Here’s why you should visit:

Food to satisfy the stomach of any seafood lover

Without a doubt, the fresh bounty from the local sea is the main attraction when it comes to dining on local delicacies. Enjoy many kinds of fish, or crab, squid, shrimp or abalone. And don’t forget the local treasure that is chocolate clams (Almejas Chocolates) – dark brown clams cooked on coals and topped with the local herb Romerito. According to one local website, when the herb is consumed by fire the clams are ready to eat!

Non-seafood-lovers need not fear, as the area is also famous for chicken tamales (chopped chicken with peppers and local herbs and spices, all wrapped in corn husks or banana leaves). And you can’t leave without sampling a few margaritas, of course.

Activities the whole family can enjoy

The Diamante Resort in Cabo boasts a 10-hectare Crystal Lagoon with majestic views of the Pacific Ocean. This family-friendly amenity is in addition to the luxury resort’s popular championship golf courses so there’s something for everyone.

Here you can enjoy sailing, swimming, and stand up paddling while the golfer in the family goes for a round on either a Jack Nicklaus or Tiger Woods championship course.

A chance to witness wildlife up close

Swim, dive, or snorkel with the most incredible marine life including sharks, mahi-mahi, striped marlin and whale sharks.

In the winter months, you don’t need to head far from the coast or look far for a tour operator to take you to snorkel with the whale sharks – a top bucket list activity for many. Swim with these beautiful giants that share the water with other marine life from beautiful fish to rays, dolphins, and whales.

The region also has a wide variety of birds for those who prefer to remain with their feet on dry land. Look out for hummingbirds, thrashers, owls and many more. Don’t forget to pack a decent bird book for hundreds of spotting opportunities.
