PICS: The World's largest aerial photo contest winners are absolutely breathtaking

Cape Town - Soaring above cities, mountains and oceans, drones are pushing the photography bar even higher with professionals and amateurs capturing new perspectives of the world we live in. 

We've seen the Top 20 most incredible drone shots of the world as voted for by Dronestagram. And now, SkyPixel, a community of over one million aerial photographers and videographers, has also released their top choices as the very best aerial imagery of 2016.

Drawn from 27 000 entries, with talented professional and amateur photographers judged separately, the drone photographers submitted their entries from 131 countries around the world competing in three different categories – beauty, 360 and drones in use.

A magical shot of a Chinese fisherman, taken in China by Ge Zheng, took the grand prize for Photo of the Year.


In the Professional category, a spellbinding image of a camel train snaking across a desert, entitled Exploration, came first in the professional beauty category and in the 360 professional category, a breath-taking scene of an Asian cityscape by night, titled Starry Night, took top laurels.

In the amateur or Enthusiast category, a shot of the Tianshan Mountains won First Prize in the 360 category, while a jaw-dropping snap of a motorway bridge took the crown in the beauty category.
