Cape Town - If you're going to take travel advice from anyone, it might as well be the American-born traveller Cassie De Pecol.

Travelling to all the world's 196 sovereign nations in 18 months and 26 days, De Pecol made the trip in less than half the time it took the previous Guinness World Record holder.

It's a momentous journey, and what makes it even more special, is that it was a visit to South Africa back in February 2015 that sparked her initial wanderlust.

Now, De Pecol has listed her absolute favourite destinations in the world, adding a bit of travel advice to adventurers.

"Leave all preconceptions at the door and walk into each town, each city, each country with a completely open mind," De Pecol says. "Learn hands-on from the people what their culture and face of humanity entail. Embrace the unknown. Trust in the unknown. And learn someone's story. You never know... you might be pleasantly surprised..."

Pleasantly surprised is exactly what we were upon reading De Pecol's Top 10 suggestions! In 10th place is her home country, the United States of America.

"They say home is where the heart is, and the more I travel, the more that's becoming more real to me," she tells Indy 100

Take a look at De Pecol's interesting Top 10 suggestions:
